Santa Fe Springs Crash Causes Building Fire, Downs Power Lines

Police have closed Los Nietos Road in all directions. (BREAKING)

SANTA FE SPRINGS, CA — A crash Monday afternoon in Santa Fe Springs led to a sheared fire hydrant, downed power lines and at least one building on fire, police said.

No injuries were immediately reported as a result of the blaze at the 12200 block of Los Nietos Road, which was sending thick, black smoke that was visible for miles. The Santa Fe Springs Fire Department and the Whittier Police Department were responding to the scene.

The fire was reported reported at 1:43 p.m. at the industrial complex, according to the Santa Fe Springs Fire Department. Three structures are on fire, according to KNX News Radio.

According to reports, the building on fire is Multi-Link Corp., a plastics recycling company. The firm's website says the company has been in business since 1997.

At least one vehicle was on fire outside the building.

A damaged flat-bed truck and a sheared power pole, possibly the result of a traffic crash, were also visible on Los Nietos near the recycling facility.

Units from the Santa Fe Springs, Downey, Compton, Vernon and Los Angeles County fire departments responded to the scene, a dispatcher said.

Firefighters continued to pour water on the fire more than two hours after the fire was reported.

Los Nietos Road was closed in both directions, according to Whittier police.
