What's UP: X Games in L.A., India Independene Day, Obama L.A. Visit

Five things to know for Friday, Aug. 2 in Cerritos and Artesia.

Here are five things to start off your day in Cerritos and Artesia:

  1. The X Games begin their 11th consecutive and final year in the Los Angeles area today before moving to Austin, Texas. The extreme sports competition, which includes such sports as skateboarding, BMX biking and Moto X continues Friday through Sunday in downtown Los Angeles. 
  2. Check out the annual India's Independence Day Celebrations at Artesia Park from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 3. The event—which will be hosted by the Federation of Indo-Americans and the Indian Community of Southern California—will include folk dances, music and local celebrities.   3. President Obama plans to travel to Southern California on Tuesday to tape an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Obama will visit Phoenix on Tuesday to discuss his plans for boosting home ownership across the country and will then travel to Burbank for the taping, according to an official.

  5. Mostly sunny skies are expected for Cerritos and Artesia this weekend but temperatures will remain relatively cool, according to the National Weather Service. Highs will top out in the upper 70s both Saturday and Sunday in Cerritos.
