The Spirit of Cerritos: Meet Cerritos High's Natalie Tran

My name is Natalie Tran and I’m currently a junior at . 

I play the piano, vibraphone, flute, and piccolo, but my main instrument is the flute, which I first learned to play in the fourth grade. Though I’m certainly not the best in either of these instruments, I rejoice in the fact that I’m able to play a variety of them.

To be in the CHS Wind Symphony takes a lot of dedication. It’s difficult to take the time to practice music while juggling six other classes, three of them being honors or AP. I believe that one must be committed and assiduous in order to be considered a good member of the Wind Symphony.

Hard work in this band pays off because the successes of a well-performing band can take you to great places, literally. For example, in 2011, my bandmates and I got to cherish the rare opportunity to travel to New York, and we were even given the not-even-once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to perform in the prestigious Carnegie Hall. Obviously, the hard work one gives in band can definitely be worth it.

A unique factor of playing in the Wind Symphony is that each individual must play well so that everyone together can sound well as a whole. This concept pertains to teamwork, and good teamwork is essential for a group to succeed.

It’s definitely an honor to be a part of the Cerritos High School Wind Symphony. Being in this band can not only distinguish one as capable of talent, but it also lets people grow as both individuals and also together as a whole.
