‘Drop Your Drawers’ and Help a Veteran
The 3rd annual Citrus Heights Veterans Picnic is set for Saturday in Rusch Park.
For this year’s Veterans Picnic and Resource Event in Citrus Heights, organizers are asking locals to do something unusual: Drop Your Drawers. Well, not your drawers, but a new and packaged pair of men’s boxer shorts.
During the event, which starts at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25 at , a national nonprofit organization is asking for donations of men’s boxers. Sew Much Comfort takes the boxers, alters them using Velcro closures and gives them to wounded service members. The altered drawers allow wounded service members to wear regular clothing instead of the hospital gowns, according to their website.
Bill Muth, co-chair for the picnic, said this “Drop Your Drawers” donation drive is one of the new features for this third annual Veterans Picnic. They will be accepting donations of new and packaged boxer shorts during the picnic, Muth said.

The free barbecue picnic is open to all active and retired veterans and family members and features education and job training resources, veteran recognition, kids activities, music and more. Muth said each veteran will also get a raffle ticket. Some of the raffle prize highlights include a round of golf, gift cards to local restaurants and grocery stores and more, Muth said.
Organizers are hoping about 600 people attend the event — Muth estimates 200 people attended the first year and about 400 last year.

The Citrus Heights Marching Band and Choir, Steve Stizzo from “Mumbo Gumbo,” the “Harmonicoots” and other groups will perform.
Muth said raffle prize donations are still welcome; people can bring them to the picnic.
The Veterans Picnic is a collaboration between the Citrus Heights American Legion Post 637 and GFWC Citrus Heights Women’s Club.
