Homeowner Shoots Man During Alleged Attempted Robbery

Citrus Heights Police are currently investigating the shooting.

A Citrus Heights resident allegedly shot a man who he believes was trying to break into his home Wednesday morning, Oct. 17.

According to Citrus Heights Police, the shooting was reported at 9:48 a.m. today in the 7700 block of Bierston Street in Citrus Heights.

Citrus Heights Detective Chad Morris said the intruder and homeowner knew each other. They were former roommates, according to Citrus Heights Police.

"This was not a stranger-type incident," Morris said.

Detectives don't know yet if the homeowner recognized the intruder at the time the shot was fired, Morris said.

Morris said they believe one shot was fired with a shotgun. The intruder was shot to the upper body and was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries, Morris said.

The shooting is currently under investigation.
