LA VERNE, CA — Any hope of housing being built on the vacant Sierra La Verne Country Club property is a long way from becoming reality city officials announced Thursday.

The site has been vacant since 2019 when the country club closed, and offers to develop the land have been few and far between, the city said in a statement.

“Besides some initial interest when the property was first listed for sale, the city has not received any formal inquiries about the status by any developers, nor has any application been filed for development,” the statement said.

One big hurdle preventing the property from being developed is La Verne's current land use designation, according to city officials. It currently prohibits housing from being built on the golf course.

City officials said the site is still being maintained for weed abatement and tree removals to mitigate any fire risk.

Because of multiple residents contacting the city about the country club property, city officials have set up a frequently asked questions page on the La Verne website.
