Coroner Identifies Concord Man, 21, As Victim In Fatal I-580 Crash

He died Thursday morning in a four-vehicle crash on eastbound I-580 in Livermore.

EAST BAY, CA β€” A Concord man was identified as the victim of a fatal, four-vehicle collision early Thursday morning on I-580 in Livermore, according to the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau and the California Highway Patrol.

Juan Moreno Alonso, 21 of Concord, was the only death in the accident. He was driving a Ford Mustang that rear-ended a Ford F-350 pickup truck around 3:30 a.m. in the far left lane of the highway near the First Street exit, according to the CHP.

A Chevrolet pickup truck traveling over the speed limit was trying to change lanes but was unable to brake, according to the CHP. The truck crashed into the right passenger door of the Mustang. The truck’s rear was then hit by a passing Ford Expedition, CHP said.

Moreno Alonso likely died when the Chevy hit his Mustang. The Chevy driver suffered a broken knee and ankle, but no one else was injured, according to the CHP.

All eastbound lanes of 580 were closed until about 7 a.m. Thursday.
