Long-time Coronado resident Toni Gaylord received much deserved recognition last month, when over 25 friends, family and community members gathered in the grassy median at Orange and Loma avenues to dedicate a garden in her honor.
One of 16 in the Orange median, the garden was designed to emphasize Toni’s love of roses by incorporating more than five unique varieties. Complete with Foxgloves, Impatiens and Boxwoods, and surrounded by a signature brick border, Toni’s garden is a colorful gift to Coronado and represents her indomitable spirit.
Founding garden designer Maryly Benzian, along with MainStreet board member Caroline Murray, were instrumental in the creation of the tribute garden, along with input from friends, family and Toni herself. She died last year.

MainStreet accepted garden donations in her memory. Toni had an extensive resume of accomplishments and responsibilities but among her favorites was her stint as director of Coronado MainStreet.
Her love of Coronado was influential in shaping the community, downtown and Median Garden Project. The MainStreet Board of Directors salutes Toni, and is delighted that one of those gardens now bears her name.
