Free Shuttle Bus Service Begins Friday

A free shuttle bus service to carry passengers around the busiest parts of Coronado will begin Friday.

A free shuttle bus service for Coronado residents and visitors will begin Friday, according to a city official.

The pilot program approved by the Coronado City Council at a June 5 meeting will carry people along Route 904 on Orange Avenue between Tidelands Park and the Ferry Landing on one end of the city to City Hall and the Coronado Community Center at another.

Two buses dressed in decorative wrapping will run from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. until Sept. 30. Each bus will make runs every 30 minutes.

Members of the community may join city leaders for an inaugural ride Friday. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 8:45 a.m. Stops will be made along the way for refreshments and to pick up passengers.

Brochures and maps of prominent places will be available onboard the two buses provided by the Metropolitan Transit System. The pilot program cost the City of Coronado $54,000. The Coronado Tourism Improvement District also helped fund the program.
