Grand Ladies of the Old West Won Director’s Trophy at Coronado Parade
Parade Chairman Dave Szymanski estimated 80,000 people lined the Orange Avenue route.
A unit of Grand Ladies of the Old West was among the top winners in the Coronado , according to the Coronado 4th of July Committee. Their unit, one of 120 Wednesday, won the Director’s Trophy.
“Coronado sweepstakes is decided between the top two floats in the Coronado Theme and Coronado Non-Theme categories,” said Scott Godfrey, judges chairman, who provided a list of winners.
“Similarly, military sweepstakes is the better of the two first place floats from the Military Theme and Military Non-Theme categories.”

The top float in the Non-Coronado or Military category receives the Director’s Trophy.
Parade Chairman Dave Szymanski said the parade had a total of 120 entries. He estimated at least 80,000 people lined the Orange Avenue route.

The parade cost the 4th of July Committee about $60,000, but Szymanski on Thursday wasn’t sure whether fund-raising efforts had met the committee’s goals.
