Two Found Dead Sunday Were Navy Personnel

An officer and active-duty service member were both 25-year-old males. A 31-year-old male and 24-year old female were also found dead early New Year's Day.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office has released limited information about the Sunday on Park Place.

Their names were not listed, nor was a cause of death, although each case is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office.

Two were 25-year-old males that were in the Navy, including an officer.

A spokesman at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar confirmed that two of the dead were stationed there. The San Diego Union-Tribune, based on an interview with a family member, identified them as a brother and sister from Bakersfield: Navy pilot David Reis and Karen Reis, 24, a UC San Diego alumnus.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will not release the identities of the service members; instead the Navy will determine when to officially make their names public.Β

The medical examiner will release information about the others who died when next of kin have been notified.

Don Hubbard, who lives next door, said the shootings took place after a New Year’s Eve party that was held at the residence.

β€œThe party had ended and we could hear people shooting the breeze,” Hubbard said. β€œThey weren’t boisterousΒ and there didn’t seem to be anything untoward going on.”
