100 Turkey Dinners Delivered to Needy on Thanksgiving Day
Cupertino Rotary's annual Turkey Dinner Project provides complete meals for 500 children and adults in the area, who may not be able to afford and enjoy a holiday meal without the nonprofit's help.
Before sitting down to enjoy their own Thanksgiving feasts the business of delivering 100 full Thanksgiving dinners to those struggling to make ends meet was the mission of about 50 Cupertino Rotarians early Thanksgiving Day.
“This is what Rotary is all about, ‘service before self’ and we have learned that even in the affluent neighborhoods around Cupertino, there is great need,” Cupertino Rotary Club President Hsing Kung said in a statement.
About 500 children and adults enjoyed the complete dinners provided for by donations of Rotary members.

The need to reach out to families in the area who were in need was identified in 2000 in a collaborative effort by Rotarian Rich Abdalah and West Valley Community Services, which provides food, housing and other services to people in Cupertino, Saratoga, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno and West San Jose.
Volunteers from Boy Scout Troop #579 and Cub Scouts of Pack 492 assisted with the Turkey Dinner project.

Families in need were identified by local school districts, West Valley Community Services, Live Oak Adult Day Services and RotaCare, according to Councilmember Rod Sinks who was co-chair, Cupertino Rotary 2012 Thanksgiving Feast Distribution.
“Programs such as this serve our community and help our families understand giving back by actively participating,” Sinks said in a statement.
