4x4 Sinkhole On Lafayette St. Still Closed 1 Northbound Lane

Crews are still on the scene to fix the sinkhole located between State Route 237 and Calle De Luna.

SANTA CLARA, CA -- Motorists may still want to avoid a portion of Lafayette Street in north Santa Clara due to a sinkhole, the Santa Clara Police Department announced at 3:59 a.m. on Monday.

As of Tuesday morning, one northbound lane of Lafayette Street between Calle De Luna and Highway 237 remains closed as crews work to fix the problem. Detour signs have been placed in the area.

According to the city’s Water & Sewer Utilities staff, the 4-foot-wide sinkhole was caused by a break in a 42-inch sewer line. There were no sewer overflows in the street or from the storm drain.
