Cupertino Burglary Suspects Arrested After Chase

Two suspects in a residential burglary led deputies on a chase before crashing on Interstate 880 in Fremont, officials said.

CUPERTINO, CA — Two residential burglary suspects in Cupertino were arrested Friday after a car chase that ended with a collision on Interstate Highway 880 near Mowry Avenue in Fremont.

Santa Clara County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an in-progress burglary in Cupertino at approximately 12:33 p.m. on Friday. The suspects fled the scene when the deputies arrived, leading to a vehicle pursuit that began in Cupertino and ended in Fremont, when the suspect collided with another vehicle.

The 27-year-old driver, Raul Cruz, and a 30-year-old passenger, Gustavo Ayala, fled the scene, but were later apprehended by the deputies and Fremont police.

The driver of the other vehicle was taken to a hospital to treat non life-threatening injuries.
Deputies located items stolen from the burglary victim in the car Cruz was driving, including high end purses, watches and jewelry.

Cruz and Ayala were arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary, resisting a peace officer, conspiracy to commit a crime, evading a peace officer, hit and run causing injury and possession of stolen property.
