Cupertino Man ID'd As Pedestrian Killed in Sunnyvale Crash

The accident around 5 a.m. Friday morning in the area of Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road and La Conner Drive, where there are no crosswalks.

A pedestrian fatally struck by two cars in Sunnyvale early Friday morning was identified Monday as 35-year-old Josue Mendez of Cupertino, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.

Around 5 a.m. Friday, officers and firefighters responded to a report of a collision between a car and a pedestrian in the area of Sunnyvale-Saratoga Road and La Conner Drive, where there are no crosswalks, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officials said.

The pedestrian, later identified as Mendez, suffered serious injuries and emergency medical crews pronounced him dead at the scene, officials said.

Two cars had struck the pedestrian and both drivers stayed at the scene to cooperate with the investigation, said officials. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.
