Cupertino 'Meat Heist' Foiled, Pricy Ribeye Cache Recovered
Investigators allege a Safeway worker saw two thieves pack more than $1,200 in ribeye and other prime cuts into their getaway Toyota Prius.
CUPERTINO, CA — Two suspects were arrested last week with a cache of stolen high-quality meats taken from a Cupertino grocery store, according to investigators.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said the pair made off with an estimated $1,200 in ribeye and other prime cuts from a Safeway on Homestead Road. Deputies credited an observant employee who witnessed the heist go down for providing a description of the alleged thieves and writing down the license plate of a getaway Prius.
According to the sheriff's investigators, a deputy tracked the suspects to the address listed on the car's registration and recovered the protein-packed loot. Both suspects were booked into the Main Jail on suspicion of theft.
