CUPERTINO, CA — Congressman Ro Khanna will join other local leaders Friday for a dedication ceremony at the Cupertino Post Office, honoring the memory of Matthew Axelson, a Navy Seal killed during a 2005 operation in Afghanistan.

He was a member of SEAL Team 10, which was on assignment to capture or kill a high-ranking Taliban leader during "Operation Red Wings" — the basis for the book and movie "Lone Survivor. Axelson was shot multiple times during a firefight but kept fighting until the last moment. He was survived by his wife, father and brother and received the Navy Cross posthumously.

The city erected a bronze statue of the Cupertino native back in 2007.
