Cupertino Seeks Artists To Recognize

The city wants to congratulate this year's "distinguished" artist and "emerging" creative type and therefore needs candidates.

CUPERTINO, CA — Each year the city's Fine Arts Commission presents awards to deserving artists in recognition of local talent in the fields of visual, verbal and performing arts.

The Emerging Artist Award recognizes demonstrations of artistic promise, and the Distinguished Artist Award acknowledges established artists having a substantial body of work that displays merit and excellence.

Applications must be received by 4:30 p.m. July 12 by visiting www.cupertino.org/distinguishedartist.

Last year's Emerging Artist Award Platinum Winner was Audrey Cui, who has been taking lessons at Hongyun Art Academy in Cupertino since she was 6 years old. She became a teacher's assistant as well as a volunteer outreach director. She leads a biweekly arts and crafts program at Sunny View Retirement Community, where she uses art as a tool to enrich people's lives and create a sense of community.
