CUPERTINO, CA — A Cupertino student recently earned national recognition for her work in underserved communities, winning a National Earth Day Scholarship from the National Society of High School Scholars Foundation.

Ryland Adzich, a student at The King's Academy, joined just nine other students who received the scholarship nationwide last month.

"She created a literacy multi-purpose room at an after-school program in the Tenderloin District of San Francisco," the NSHSS noted. "While she wanted to create a space that sparked creativity, she also wanted to combat the deforestation caused by increasing furniture production. She received recycled table, chair, stool, and whiteboard donations through Reseat, a local sustainable furniture company."

Adzich also hosts book drives for Bookworm Global, a teen-led organization that aims to reach kids with donated books, and is working to establish a tech learning lab for students in the Tenderloin.
