Cupertino, Sunnyvale In Top 25 Safest City List: Report

CUPERTINO, CA -- Beyond all its other glowing attributes, the Silicon Valley boasts six cities among the Top 50 safest city list in California. The latest is according to SafeWise, an online safety resource, which analyzed California cities to find the 50 safest. For perspective, the Golden State has a total of 482 municipalities.

To compile this report, SafeWise analysts reviewed the most recent 2017 FBI crime statistics and census population data. The evaluation is based on the number of reported violent crimes in each city per 1,000 people. If there was a tie, they also factored in the number of property crimes including burglary and car theft.

Cities that fell below identified population thresholds or failed to submit a complete FBI crime report were excluded from the ranking system.

Sunnyvale came in at No. 20, followed by Cupertino at No. 24.

According to the SafeWise analysis, there are 154,919 people living in Sunnyvale, with only 1.17 incidents of violent crime reported per 1,000 people. In Cupertino, 60,970 people live in a community with a violent crime rate of 1.26 per 1,000 people. The latter may boast the highest annual median income among the Top 50 at $153,449.
