Pedestrian Seriously Injured In South Bay Crash

The collision resulted in police closing the roadway briefly Monday morning while they conducted a preliminary investigation.

SANTA CLARA, CA — A man suffered serious injuries when he was struck by a vehicle as he crossed Montague Expressway against a red light Monday morning in Santa Clara, according to a news release from the city's police department.

Police said a 22-year-old Santa Clara resident was walking in the crosswalk -- but against the red light -- at Agnew Road at about 8:30 a.m., when he was struck by a vehicle driven by someone police only identified as a 31-year-old San Jose resident. Police did not provide the names of either person.

The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a local hospital. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.
