Santa Clara County Bike Champion Of The Year Announced

Ari Feinsmith has worked to improve cycling infrastructure and successfully lobbied for bicycle-friendly policies in Sunnyvale.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA — The Bay Area Bike to Wherever Days organizers named the winners Tuesday of the 2022 Bike Champions of the Year, which is awarded to one resident from each of the nine Bay Area counties for their commitment to biking as their primary mode of transport.

Santa Clara County's winner was Ari Feinsmith, who has worked to improve cycling infrastructure in Sunnyvale. Feinsmith, who at 19 became the team leader of the Sunnyvale Team of SVBC, has successfully lobbied the Sunnyvale City Council to improve street designs for bicyclists and make other bicycle-friendly policies.

Feinsmith also led eight free bike repair events in Sunnyvale, and his team has fixed 328 bicycles to date. He also regularly organizes community bike rides.

Each winner will receive several gifts, including a Lezyne Strip Pro Alert Drive from Mike’s Bikes, a Better World Club roadside assistance membership, a cycling cap and a laminated set of trail maps around the Bay Area.

Bay Area Bike to Wherever Days — which takes place during the month of May — is organized by the MTC, which oversees transportation in the Bay Area.
