Santa Clara County Confirms West Nile Virus In Sunnyvale, Santa Clara
The county's Vector Control District will be conducting truck-mounted treatments in portions of those cities on Monday after 10 p.m.
SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA —Santa Clara County has confirmed the presence of West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes in parts of Sunnyvale and Santa Clara, and the county said it will be conducting truck-mounted treatments in that area on Monday night.
Weather permitting, the treatments will take place after 10 p.m. — and last for "a few hours" — in the Zip Codes 94085, 94086, 94087 and 95051, county officials said.
The county said the treatments are designed to reduce the mosquito population in the area, which reduces the risk of a West Nile Virus (WNV) human infection.

The West Nile program is conducted by the Santa Clara Vector Control District, which has a dedicated surveillance program that detects the presence of diseases like WNV, St. Louis encephalitis and western equine encephalitis, all of which are transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes, officials said.
The county said its Vector Control District has been conducting successful truck-mounted treatments regularly since 2003.

To inform citizens about the upcoming treatments, the county said it has distributed door hangars at homes in the neighborhoods where the treatments will take place.
Santa Clara County officials also have sent notice directly to the public in the treatment ZIP codes through AlertSCC and to those who subscribe to Nextdoor neighborhood networks. The county also has provided notice on social media platforms like: Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, and via email to those who subscribe to mosquito treatment notifications.
Staff at the Vector Control District are available for questions on weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. via the West Nile Virus Hotline (408-282-3114). Questions also can be submitted to vectorinfo@cep.sccgov.org.
