Santa Clara Police Advisory Com Forms To Connect Town With Force

The 15-member committee met for the first time a week ago to discuss its purpose, expectations and city department policy.

SANTA CLARA, CA -- In a day and age when relations between community and police might be frayed, Santa Clara Police Chief Mike Sellers has advanced the cause of connection by implementing an advisory committee tasked with providing an ongoing dialogue and understanding between citizens and police officers.

The hope is for the police department to engage and collaborate with members of the community on critical issues necessary to ensure a smooth relationship in the Santa Clara County city. Topics of interest will involve public safety, confidence, trust and quality of life.

The group through encouragement of the chief will offer input on a Crisis Response and Communication Plan as well as other topical subjects like a Drone Deployment Policy and Safer City Strategy.
