SANTA CLARA, CA — Marking the end of a four-decade long career in law enforcement for the city of Santa Clara, Police Chief Michael J. Sellers has announced his retirement set for the fall.

After rising through the ranks, Sellers has served as chief for the last seven years, after having been elected by the people of Santa Clara in 2012 and again in 2016.

“It is an absolute honor to serve among some of the most devoted, courageous and hardworking individuals dedicated to making Santa Clara a safe and welcoming community. It’s because of the men and women of the Santa Clara Police Department, coupled with the support of this community, that I have celebrated a long and rewarding career doing what I love. Collectively, we have made Santa Clara a better place,” Sellers said, who called the move a "difficult decision" but the one that comes at a "right time for me to explore the next chapter of life and spend time with my family."
