SANTA CLARA, CA -- A southbound lane of Lafayette Street between Calle De Luna and State Route 237 will be closed Saturday and Monday so crews may work on the 4- x 4-foot wide sinkhole with reduced traffic in the area, the Santa Clara Police Department announced Friday.

Public works crews will be at the site from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the sinkhole-related repairs. The city’s contractor will use an excavator to load trucks hauling dirt from the area.

Both southbound lanes on Lafayette Street will remain open on Sunday. The one northbound lane on Lafayette Street between Calle De Luna and State Route 237 remains closed. Since March 17, the sinkhole has kept the northbound lane closed as the city assesses the damage and conducts repairs.
