Sketch of Homeless Stabbing Victim Released

A sketch was released Tuesday of the homeless woman murdered in San Jose in August as authorities seek her true identity.

The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office asks the public for help with the identification of this Jane Doe homicide victim, who was known in the Midtown area as Gail, and was believed to be 60 at the time of her death.

"She was an introvert," said a homeless man who went by the name of John.

He said knew Gail and spends time in front of the same Walgreens she was found at. He said he hopes more can be done for her.

"She never accepted anything from anyone," he said. "She just kept to herself."

She spoke with a New York accent and officials think she may have been born there, but was known to be homeless and for years lived in the area where she was stabbed to death on Aug. 13 in front of the Walgreen store at 1399 W. San Carlos St. in San Jose.

Police and officials at Valley Medical Center say Gail gave them the last name Hayden, but the coroner’s office has not been able to confirm that. She did not have a driver’s license, identification or record with the police.
