South Bay Burglary Suspect Found Hiding In Trash Can

The teen suspect pulled a knife on a woman who confronted him, according to police.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — A teen auto burglary suspect who allegedly pulled a knife on a witness was arrested after he was found hiding in trash can, Mountain View police said.

The suspect was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, attempted auto theft, burglary, possession of burglary tools and obstructing an officer and booked into Juvenile Hall, police said.

Officers at around 6:30 p.m. Friday responded to the intersection of Latham Street and Pettis Avenue on the report of an auto burglary in progress, police said.

The witness told dispatchers she spotted the male suspect climbing from a vehicle and that he brandished a knife when she confronted him, police said.

The suspect initially fled the scene but was later found hiding in a trash can in the 600 block of Mountain View Avenue after police set up a perimeter.

The suspect was found the teen to be in possession of burglary tools.

“This is a just one example of the great police work and the tenacity of our women and men on patrol,” police Capt. Scott Nelson said in a statement.

“Kudos also to the alert resident who called us to help us successfully resolve this case.”
