Want to Pre-Order iPhone 5? Today's Your Day

Best to order online or venture out of Cupertino, because the company store doesn't sell phones. Multiple carriers are taking pre-orders in addition to Apple Stores in neighboring cities.

Pre-orders for the iPhone 5 began at 12 a.m. today, Friday, Sept. 14 on the Apple store’s website.

The store at Apple's headquarters in Cupertino won't take pre-orders, according to an employee at the Apple store at Valley Fair. The Cupertino location doesn't sell phones. Valley Fair is the closest retail location to Cupertino.

Apple, Inc. (AAPL) debuted its latest smart phone Wednesday, featuring a 4-inch screen, and is 20 percent lighter and 18 percent thinner than its predecessor, the iPhone 4.

Verizon will also begin sales at 12 a.m. PST Friday, and Sprint will begin sales at 12:01 a.m., according to their websites.

AT&T will also take pre-orders Friday but have not yet listed at what time.

Apple stores and the three carriers will also take orders in stores on Friday, Sept. 21.
