4th of July: Police Will be Thick at Community Park
Whether it be fire danger or excessive alcohol, the Davis Police Department will be on the look out.

The Davis Police Department has bolstered staff for today’s . They hope to curb dangerous activity before it begins, whether it has to do with fire or excessive alcohol.
“We’re going to have a heavy presence at the park,” said Lt. Paul Doroshov. “We encourage people to not bring fireworks to Community Park because we’ll be giving citations.”
Fireworks have been illegal for years in Davis, but can be purchased with ease in surrounding towns. As discussed in a recent , there are more fires on Fourth of July than any other day in the year. Hence the extra attention at the park, which will be filled with people, many of them children.

“It’s an area with a lot of people packed in,” Doroshov said. “And it’s dark. It’s not really safe to light those off.”
Doroshov pointed out that many people manipulate the so-called “safe-and-sane” fireworks so that they explode rather than simply whistle or spray sparks. That practice is illegal even beyond Davis, obviously.

Drinking
Alcohol is permitted in the park, but you’d be wise to keep your partying in check this evening.
“We have officers dedicated specifically to this event,” Doroshov said. “We really encourage people to drink responsibly because it’s a public event. We don’t want them to be a danger to others.”
