The trend started with Lance Armstrong, but now many riders are tweeting.

Almost every rider in this year’s Tour de France is on Twitter.
The trend started with Lance Armstrong, who it just so happens spent the for the Livestrong Challenge. As for Armstrong’s tweeting, the rest of the pack followed, just as they did in his seven consecutive Tour de France victories.
In this year’s race, almost all of the riders are documenting their journey on Twitter. A Reuters story that came out this month notes, however, that some of the older riders are reluctant to get on board.

As competitors have taken to Twitter, fans have been invited behind the scenes. They now have a window into the lives of athletes who traditionally operated “behind closed doors,” Team Sky manager Dave Brailsford told Reuters.
Armstrong’s former RadioShack team (which has more than 82,000 followers) was the first to take to Twitter, but most others have joined the online party. Have you been following the race on social media?
