City of Davis Names 2017 Community Arts Grant Award Recipients
The City of Davis has announced the 2017 recipients of its Community Arts Grant awards.

DAVIS, CA -- On March 10, the City of Davis announced the 2017 recipients of Community Arts Grant awards, which provides funds for a wide variety of community-based arts programs and projects that foster excellence, diversity and vitality in the arts.
The annual funding is awarded through the City Manager’s Office/Arts & Cultural Affairs program, and has received a substantial boost in the past few years through expanded support from City leadership.

ACME Theatre Company/Free Comedy in the Park–A Re-cycled Production of the Jungle Book
Production of free public performances of The Jungle Book. Staged and managed by high school students, and presented using entirely donated recycled materials.
Art Theatre of Davis/Free to Seagull
Production of an original interpretation of Anton Chekhov’s dramatic classic The Seagull for local audiences, including special programming at Atria Living/Covell Gardens and free Thursday performances featuring talk-back sessions.

Christine Zdunkiewicz/Chamber Players in Davis
Expand capacity for local Chamber music ensemble, including performance with local high school musicians for school-aged students and Davis community.
Danielle Fodor/Chapman and Madrone Street Mural
Creation of a community-designed and community-painted mural in the Chapman/Madrone neighborhood.
Davis Arts Center/ a la mode
Creation of an exhibit and digital catalog honoring the history of the Davis Arts Center’s Tsao Gallery.
Davis Community Chorale/ Introducing New or Underserved Community members to Live Choral Music
Work with community service providers to offer complimentary tickets to underserved members of the Davis community to attend Chorale’s 2017 spring and winter performances.
Davis Dirt/ Davis Music Day
Production of the 2nd annual Make Music Davis festival, an all-day musical event affiliated with Make Music Day, an international public celebration of music for all ages.
Davis Shakespeare Ensemble/2017 Davis Shakespeare Festival
Increase organizational capacity including: expand audience base to reach a broader range of Davis residents, increase quality of productions, strengthen school immersion program and educational outreach to the community and expanded Summer Festival offerings.
Donna Jury Wren/ Live Music at Davis Community Meals
Provide free weekly live music concerts for community diners and staff at Davis Community Meals.
Pence Gallery /Make Stuff
Engage new audiences in a series of free and low-cost hands-on workshops building on current exhibits, and designed to teach new skills, themes, and ways of seeing art.
Stories on Stage/Stories on Stage Davis
Stage monthly performances of contemporary fiction, identify emerging authors, celebrate and call attention to the cultural and artistic diversity on our region, and put Davis on the literary map.
Third Space/Empowerment through Experimentation
Present a series of affordable community workshops designed to empower marginalized individuals through creative activity, and encourage participants to continue producing art, forming artistic collaborations, and adding to the community’s diversity of expression.
Applicants selected for funding receive up to $4,000, and must complete their projects by the end of June 2018.
