Davis Music Festival Preview: Sophia's Thai Kitchen

6 p.m.
DJ Vee, aka Veronica, is a resident DJ at experimental dance, soul and bass, and the Delta of Venus patio playing downtempo, jazzy hip hop, IDM and dub. Her sixth year of Vee’s Beats can be heard weekly on KDRT (96.7 FM) in Davis.

7 p.m.
Mr. Glass is a Davis staple who has been spinning for the majority of his life. As a KDVS DJ, his beats are always positive and contain a wide range of African jazz influences.

8 p.m.
Jake Mann has been likened to Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan and Neil Young. His indie-rock four-piece band (Jake Mann +The Upper Hand) brings it all back to basics: Soul-searching rock‘n’roll music. Listen to their songs at www.jakemann.org.

9:30 p.m.
Miss Lonely Hearts, in their own words, “sound like if you put 10 cats into a burlap sack and then beat a midget with it. In other words, it’s what awesome sounds like.” Really though, they describe themselves as folk-apocalyptic/country-noir, and I encourage you to take a listen on their Facebook page.

11 p.m.
Shayna & The Bulldog are a five-piece indie group comprised entirely of UC Davis alumni. With influences like REM, The Cure and Oasis, they bounce from pop to bluegrass and right back to indie rock. Have a listen.
