Davis Starbucks Workers Won't Lose Benefits in Obamacare Backlash

Starbucks employs about 60 people at its three Davis locations.

Starbucks will not decrease employees' hours to avoid giving them health insurance as mandated by Obamacare, CEO Howard Schulz announced on Monday.

With three Starbucks locations in Davis, that's about 60 people who will keep their benefits, using theĀ About.comĀ average of 20 employees per Starbucks.Ā

According to theĀ Huffington Post, "Starbucks currently provides healthcare to part-timers who work 20 hours a week or more."

Both McDonald's and UPS have cut hours and/or health benefits as the Affordable Care Act sets in.

"Other companies have announced that they won't provide coverage for spouses; others are lobbying for the cut-off to be at 40 hours," Schulz said.Ā "But Starbucks will continue maintaining benefits for partners and won't use the new law as excuse to cut benefits or lower benefits for its workers."Ā

Starbucks in Davis is located atĀ 208 F St.,Ā 825 Russell Blvd #24, andĀ 2038 Lyndell Terrace.
