Gunpoint Robbery Leads to Police Chase; K-9 Apprehends Suspect on UCD Campus

Davis Police received word of an armed robbery near 5th and L Street early Friday morning. When officers arrived around 2:15 a.m., they discovered that a male subject had been pointing a gun at the victims, according to a written statement from Davis Police Lt. Glenn Glasgow.

The search that ensued led to a man's arrest at the hands of a Davis Police Department K-9. 

Here's how it played out, according to Glasgow: 

The suspect took property belonging to two victims and fled the area in a vehicle. The victims were able to obtain a description and partial license plate of the vehicle.

At approximately 2:40 am, a Davis police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the suspect vehicle getting onto westbound Interstate 80 from Mace Blvd. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver failed to stop and led police on a chase through UC Davis’s campus after exiting on Old Davis Rd. The chase ended in the 200 block of A St. where the male passenger ran from the vehicle. Officers took the driver into custody without incident. The driver was identified as Sunnie Robertson, a 25 year old Woodland resident.

Officers searched the area for the male suspect with the assistance of UC Davis police officers as well as a CHP helicopter. While checking the area, an officer spotted a male subject riding a bicycle from the area and attempted to stop him. The male subject fled on the bicycle and was able to temporarily evade officers. Officers then spotted the suspect and became engaged in a foot chase where a Davis Police Department K9 officer and his partner apprehended the suspect, Brian McDonald, a 27 year old Woodland resident, on campus near the Social Sciences building.

Robertson was lodged at the Yolo County Jail for robbery, felony evasion of a peace officer, and committing a felony while out on bail.
