Residential Burglaries On Rise This Month: Police

In a series of door-kick burglaries, Davis Police officials report several homes have been broken into while residents are away.

DAVIS, CA: A series of residential burglaries have occurred throughout the City of Davis during the past month, reports Davis Police Department.

"A door-kick burglary occurs when a suspect determines that the residents are not at home, and then simply kicks the front door in to gain entry to the house," explained officials in a press release.

Police say a common time of occurrence has not been determined, however, there are similarities between these crimes.

"All residences had the front door kicked in while the owners were out of town for one or more nights at a time," officials say, "The items stolen were cash, jewelry, and safes."

Police are urging residents to take precautions when planning on being away from the home.

  • Suspend mail/newspaper service during absence
  • Don't draw blinds/drapes, leave porch light on, and leave the house so it appears occupied
  • Lock side gates and garages
  • Keep Jewelry and firearms in a safe that is secured to the floor
  • Advise friendly neighbors of your absence
