Sacramento Kings Arena Debate Comes to Davis

The bus tour will be at the Veterinary Medicine Research Center in Davis from 1:45-2:45 pm.

The “Think BIG Tour” will swing through Davis Thursday in hopes of persuading the greater Sacramento area that a new sports complex will have a beneficial economic impact on the entire area, including Davis.

The Sacramento Kings are likely to leave if the city does not provide funding for a new arena. After the Kings came very close to relocating to Anaheim earlier this year, Mayor Kevin Johnson and other interested parties ramped-up their efforts to keep the team.

Others have argued that the economic benefits are not guaranteed and that now is not a good time to pay for something so large.

Representatives for Mayor Johnson and for the Sacramento Kings will be on board for the tour, along with other business and community leaders, stakeholders, and two “citizen architects.”

According to Think BIG Sacramento:

The tour will coincide with the release of the ‘Capitol Corridor Impact Report,’ an analysis of the civic and economic impact an entertainment and sports complex would have on the broader region.
