Student-Run KDVS Needs Your Support To Stay on the Air

Here's how you can lend your support.

Your local student-operated community radio station needs local support to stay on the air. They sent us the following note about their upcoming annual donation week, which will last from April 22-28. Feel free to pass it on or make a donation here

The radio station depends on community support for two-thirds of its operating budget with the remainder coming from the Associated Students of UC Davis.  ASUCD reduced its support last year and there is fear that it will do so again this year.  Therefore, community support is more important than ever.

Listeners and supporters can make donations by listening to KDVS (90.3 FM) during the week of April 22-28, 2013, when the radio station will be conducting it annual fundraising drive.  Donations can be made by calling toll-free 877-399-5387 during the fund drive.  Listeners can also donate online at www.kdvs.org.

Most of the KDVS operating budget goes for maintenance of its equipment.  The station broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and regular maintenance is required to keep it on the air.  Also, KDVS has additional expenses this year because it is purchasing equipment to increase its broadcasting range, scheduled for this summer.  The increased power will allow the station to better serve listeners in Sacramento, Woodland, Dixon, Winters, and other nearby areas.

Founded in 1964 as an on-campus station, KDVS has been serving the entire Davis community on the airwaves since 1967 with an eclectic mix of music, news, and public affairs programming.  The music programming is free-form, which means the disc jockeys choose the music to share with the audience, with an emphasis on artistic integrity, authenticity, and entertainment value rather than commercial considerations.  Musical styles can range from contemporary rock, in all of its genres, to alternative rock, early rock and roll, blues, folk, jazz, classical, and ethnic music.

The publicly supported community radio station is managed and operated by student volunteers and members of the Davis community.  In addition to providing a creative, extra-curricular outlet for student and community volunteers, KDVS has launched dozens of professional broadcasting careers over the decades.

The on-air fundraising drive will be supplemented by a series of special events, beginning with a kickoff event on UC Davis Picnic Day, April 20.  Listen to KDVS for other community fundraising events.

Please support this Davis community institution by making a generous donation by calling toll-free 877-399-5387.  And listen to KDVS at 90.3 FM or online at KDVS.org.
