Today in Davis: Midnight Street Tacos & Meteor Watching

Tacos will be dished out from 10 pm until after the bars close.

Ever tried a Panini at the ?

If so, there’s a good chance you’re a fan. I’ve probably had about 9 or 10 just this month, so keep my bias in mind as you read the rest of this post:

Juan Carlos, the man behind those Paninis, has begun serving up street tacos on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. He fires up the grill in front of the café around 10 pm and keeps it going until the bars close.

He told me last week that when he offers up the tacos to passerbys who are beginning a night on the town, most either ignore him or politely decline his offer.

But hours later, after they spill out of the bars, the tacos suddenly sound amazing.

If you're struck with hunger as you end your night tonight, do yourself a favor and don’t conk out on an empty stomach.  Stroll by the Café and give the tacos a shot. They're $1.25 each or 5 for $5.

"Homemade salsas and everything is fresh," Juan Carlos said. "Meat is marinated in fresh OJ."

Holiday: Today is Meteor Watch Day. It always falls on June 30, which means there’s no guarantee conditions will be right (which may or may not deem the holiday entirely pointless). Either way, a little stargazing never hurt anyone, especially after a few tacos.
