Today in Davis: Hardcore Bluegrass, Netflix Hike & Geeks

If you like traditional Bluegrass, then an evening with the Notorious Shank Brothers might be exactly what the doctor ordered.

They’ll be dishing up a combination of classic songs and instrumentals at tonight beginning at 4:30. The four-piece is heavily inspired by the likes of Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, The Stanley Brothers, Jim and Jesse McReynolds, Red Allen and Frank Wakefield and more.

They also sprinkle in some newer numbers that hold true to the original bluegrass concept. The Woodland-based band consists of Al Shank (mandolin), Erik Shank (banjo), Ken Eldridge (guitar) and Kim-Xuan Nguyen (bass).

Beyond Davis: Netflix raised its prices, separating the online streaming and DVD services into two separate plans, each priced at $7.99. A plan that includes both will still be available, but it will cost $15.98 per month. It was $9.99. Full Story.
