Today in Davis: Harry Potter Casts His Final Spell
Tents have been set up on F Street as Harry Potter fans await the final chapter tonight.
I haven’t been downtown yet, but my fiance just drove through. She called me, somewhat frantically:
“There are a bunch of people in tents down by the freeway on F Street! I think you need to get down there.”
I told her it was nothing out of the ordinary; it’s just Harry Potter mania in full swing. Like powerhouse films that came before it (Star Wars and Lord of the Rings, for example), die hard fans simply cannot wait to see it, so they make sure to get there first. Sometimes that means setting up a tent.

The final half of the final installment will play at on F Street tonight at 12:01 (just as Thursday magically morphs into Friday). At that point, Harry, Hermione and Ron and the rest will tie a bow atop a movie franchise that has defined their lives up to this point. Well, the actors who play the characters’ lives.
There’s no need for me to explain how to get tickets; the aforementioned campers should make it clear that it’s beyond sold out.

My advice: Watch the trailer on the right and then head down to F Street and check out the urban campers and (hopefully!) the street wizards. If you’re lucky, the magic will be on display outside the theater as well.
