Today in Davis: New Heirlooms, Cow Appreciation & Casey Anthony

The New Heirlooms will play at Sophia's tonight. Music starts at 9 pm.

The last time we saw New Heirlooms was at the . Well, they’re back, and this time they’ll take center stage at .

The band is a six-piece folk group from Davis, whose self-titled 7-inch was produced by Cooper McBean of The Devil Makes Three. The Davis Music Festival described that collection of songs as a “haunting debut” with beautiful male-female harmonies.

Doors open at 8 pm and music begins at 9. Other acts at the show will be Paper Bird (style shifts akin to weather patterns, so beware!) and Shelby Earl (Seattle-based singer-songwriter. Not country, as the name may suggest).

Reasons to Celebrate: It’s Cow Appreciation Day. The people behind the holiday encourage you to “go give a cow a hug,” which is doable in Davis.
