UC Increases California Resident Enrollment Following Criticism

The University of California announced Monday that they have accepted 15% more California resident students for the fall of 2016, with significant increases in Latino and African American students, according to the LA Times.

This comes on the heels of heavy criticism in the California State Auditor’s report that noted increased out-of-state student admission last year making it more difficult for California residents to gain admission to universities.

The LA Times reports that California high school senior admissions increased 8,488 from last year to 66,123, with offers to Latinos increasing to 22,704 from 16,608 and African Americans to 3,083 from 2,337.

UC also reportedly increased non-resident students by 7.7% to 32,799, capping out-of-state enrollments at UCLA, UC Berkeley, and UC San Diego.
