Arbor Day Celebration Takes Root Friday Morning
Pantera Elementary School will host the city's annual Arbor Day celebration and tree planting Friday morning at 9:30 a.m.

While thousands of residents had their day Saturday at the , the city's 14,000 trees will have their celebration Friday morning at .
The celebration will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with student performances, recognition of a national poster contest, and the planting of five 24-inch boxed London Plane trees donated by West Coast Arborists.
At the April 5 meeting of the city council, the April 22 date was declared Arbor Day with a proclamation acknowledging the city's status as a Tree City USA community for the past 10 years.

According to the Arbor Day Foundation, the Tree City recognition is made for communities that have:
- A tree board or department
- A tree care ordinance
- A community forestry program with an annual budget of at least $2 per capita
- An Arbor Day observance and proclamation
Representatives from the Los Angeles County Fire Department will be on hand to present the city with the award for the 10th year.

Attendance to Friday's event is open to the public, though guests will be asked to check in as a visitor at the school's main office.
