Cubmobiles Dart Through Sycamore Canyon Park

Three Scouts received the highest Cub Scout honor Sunday during Pack 737's end of year ceremonies that included Cubmobile races through Sycamore Canyon Park.

Cub Scout Den Leader Patrick Ray comes from a long line of Scouts.

Ray — along with his father, grandfather, and brother — all attained the high rank of Eagle Scout, which Ray said his son Mike now looks to pursue.

On Sunday, Ray presided over his son's reception of the highest Cub Scout honor, the Arrow of Light, alongside two other Scouts from the pack.

Thomas Yip and Brian Chang also received the award, and Ray said all of the Scouts awarded have expressed a desire to go on to become an Eagle Scout.

"This is big progress," Wai Lok Yip, Thomas's father, said. "(Thomas) just goes up and up."

And the pack's energy shows: Ray said his son had returned with members of the pack from an overnight camping trip that same morning.

The ceremony was part of the year-end festivities for Diamond Bar Cub Scout Pack 737.

While the awards were a high mark, the Scouts leapt at the opportunity to hop into home-made "Cub mobiles" and race down the long driveway at .

Cubmaster David Moskovitz said events like Sunday's are important to keep the troop together and help to keep Scouts engaged.

"This year has gone well," Moskovitz said, who had his first go as Cubmaster this year. "The issue nowadays is kids are so busy with sports and other things."

But despite commitments to baseball, homework, and other activities, Moskovitz said the 40-member troop is going strong.
