Diamond Bar Medians Set to be Revamped to Improve Line of Sight for Drivers

The city of Diamond Bar plans to revamp two medians to improve the line of sight for drivers.

A portion of the median at the westerly leg of the intersection of Grand Avenue and Summitridge Drive will be reconstructed. The median will be narrowed to enable the left-turn pocket to be moved over to improve the line of sight for drivers going both westbound and eastbound who are trying to turn left at the intersection, City Manages James DeStefano wrote in a staff report to the City Council.

The council members voted 5-0 last week to approve the plans and designate $35,581 for the project, which includes a $7,000 contingency fee.

Also unanimously approved in a separate action was the approval of plans and the awarding of $41,659, including a $6,000 contingency fee, for a similar median project at Silver Hawk Drive and Diamond Bar Boulevard. L.M.T. Enterprises DBA Tyner Paving Company will do both projects.

The work at Silver Hawk and Diamond Bar will consist of raising a portion of the median at the southerly leg of the intersection and narrowing the width to allow the left-turn pocket to be shifted, according to DeStefano.  That shift will improve the line of sight for both northbound and southbound cars and trucks making left turns from Diamond Bar Boulevard on to Silver Hawk.

Construction is expected to start in mid-October and be completed around 30 days later.
