[PHOTOS] Wine Soirée Records 'Banner Year'

The 18th annual Friends of the Diamond Bar Library Wine Soirée was highlighted by the announcement of funding for a new library, but the various auctions, foods, and wines were still the main attraction for the annual fundraiser.

Harry Soo had just gotten in from Scottsdale, Ariz., where he took home another barbecue trophy, this time for brisket.

Soo returned to prepare the same slow-cooked meat for his team's first time out to the Friends of the Diamond Bar Library Wine Soirée Sunday evening.

"It's good to give back to to the community," Soo said. "Barbecue equals happiness."

Soo and "Slap Yo' Daddy BBQ" were just one of the many vendors at the fundraiser that brought over 350 attendees to benefit the Diamond Bar Library.

"I'm amazed at how many people are here so far," Library Manager Jesse Lanz said. "It's only my second one and I'm impressed by how beautifully it all comes together."

The event included a silent and live auction, with Library Friend Larry Smith's nimble enunciation guiding an array of dinners, deals, and donations to the highest bidder.

"We had a banner year," Library Friends Past President Kathleen Newe said.

Newe said the Friends are still tabulating the total funds raised from the event and that more funds continue to come in.

"We won't know the total for a little while," Newe said.

Soo, who teaches barbecue classes in his backyard said he plans on continuing a connection with the Diamond Bar Library and will teach a barbecue class there in early July.
