Student Luthier Builds Custom Guitars: John Caldwell
Diamond Bar High School senior John Caldwell is already building upon guitar-making history with his riff on Gibson's classic SG model guitar. The project was completed in teacher Mike Bromburg's Advanced Woodshop class.
Name: John Caldwell
School: Diamond Bar High School
Grade: 12
Accomplishment: While some teens idolize the guitars and brands of their favorite rock stars, Caldwell has started by designing and building an original, riffing off of Gibson's iconic SG model guitar. Caldwell built the hand-crafted axe in teacher Mike Bromburg's Advanced Woodshop class and was recognized by the Walnut Valley School Board for his exceptional work at the board's last meeting.
Key to Awesomeness: Caldwell continues to pursue new projects as well. During the meeting where he was recognized, Caldwell brought in another project guitar currently in the works — a multi-layered purple and natural wood instrument that pays tribute to a Prince design.

Caldwell also helped with construction on an impressive class project — a replica of a 1955 Benroy Teardrop camping trailer. A plaque on the interior of the door includes the signatures of every student that worked on the project.
