By Bay City News Service
Several pounds of marijuana were found aboard a sailboat in the waters near Benicia Thursday night, U.S. Coast Guard officials said.
At 10:36 p.m., two men on board a 35-foot sailboat outside of the Benicia Marina in the Carquinez Strait were found with four pounds of marijuana during a safety boarding, during which officials check safety equipment, officials said.

The drugs were found in plain sight when inspection officials entered the boat. The boarding was only a routine safety check, not a search of the boat, officials said.
The men initially claimed they had medical marijuana licenses, but admitted they could not produce evidence that either held a license, officials said. Solano County Sheriff's officials seized the marijuana.
