All Dixon May Fair Entries due Friday

Any youth or adult planning to enter an item in the 137th annual Dixon May Fair must complete an entry form by 7 p.m. Friday.

Entry forms are available at the Dixon May Fair office, 655 South First St., in Dixon, in the Dixon May Fair’s 2012 Exhibitor Handbook or online at www.dixonmayfair.com. A form must be filled out for every entry, and the required fee varies depending on the category.

There are nearly 100 categories people can enter in the Dixon May Fair. The fair consists of eight different showcases, including interior living, fine arts, photography, floriculture, today’s youth, industrial education, Ag mechanics and junior livestock.

Meanwhile, the Dixon May Fair office now has presale fair admission tickets, carnival wristbands, and ride booklets available for purchase.

The presale tickets are $7 each and will be available until May 9, the day before the start of the 137th annual Dixon May Fair. During the fair, regular price tickets will be $12 for adults, $8 for military personnel and senior citizens, and $7 for children.

The carnival wristbands, which allow people to get on an unlimited number of rides in one day, are on sale for $24. During the fair, the wristbands will be $29. The ride booklet, which includes 30 ride tickets, is available for $20. Its normal price during the fair is $30. Most of the carnival attractions require three to five tickets per ride.

As many who visit the fair every year know, the May Fair offers something for everyone. An array of entertainment is planned on several stages, and the arena will play host to big name stars. Hip Hop star Snoop Dogg and special guest One Block Radius will kick off the fair’s entertainment with a May 9 concert. Fair officials are planning a “soft” opening that night for those attending the performance. The English Beat and the Romantics will keep the crowd dancing on May 10, and country stars Kellie Pickler and Phil Vassar will co-headline a concert May 11. Larry the Cable Guy, a nationally known comedian and actor, will entertain on May 12 along with special guest Reno Collier.

Tickets for the concerts are now available at the Dixon May Fair Box Office, 655 South First St. in Dixon, at all TicketMaster Outlets, online at www.ticketmaster.com, or charge by phone at (800) 745-3000.

Tickets for both Snoop Dogg and Larry the Cable Guy are on sale for $75 and $45 reserved, and $35 general admission. Tickets for the Pickler and Vassar concert are $65 and $45 for reserved and $29 general admission. Reserved seat tickets for The English Beat and The Romantics are $25 and general admission seating is $20. Following Larry the Cable Guy’s show, the May Fair’s arena will be transformed in preparation for the demolition derby the next day. A Mother’s Day tradition for many families, the derby will feature drivers from throughout Solano County and beyond. Tickets are now on sale for $22 each and are available at the May Fair Box Office.

Other attractions and entertainment scheduled include local performers on the Leber Garden Stage, carnival rides and games, a hog calling contest, the diaper derby, the May Fair Royalty Court competition, and well over 400 sheep, goats, steers, swine, and other animals.

The 137th annual Dixon May Fair will open on Thursday, May 10 and entertain thousands of visitors through Mother’s Day on Sunday, May 13. The fair will be open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. all four days, with a “soft” opening planned the evening of Wednesday, May 9. For more information, visit www.dixonmayfair.com.
